Apply for Certification/Fellowship
We are excited to share with you that the certification application is open, and we will be accepting applications from April 1 to May 31, 2024.
We have listened to your feedback and made a few refinements that strikes the balance between having a process that is both practical and comprehensive. Please take note of 2 major changes:
We will be firming up the exam dates as some of you have asked for flexibility to account for differences in time zones, vacations, childcare and other obligations. We are leaning strongly towards having a week window where you will be able to log in and take the exam through our testing service vs. one set time/date.
Our process for board certification follows what other ND specialty groups have created and also creates something distinct to the specialty of mental health.
Timeline and Steps for Application:
1. April 1: can start submitting applications through PsychANP website (proof of valid ND license + application fee + CME for Suicide and Psychiatric Emergencies). We recommend that applicants are approximately 70-80% done with their CME and patient contact requirements by the time of application, as applicants will have until March 31 of the following year to complete all CME and contact requirements. After your application is received, you will receive an email link to a Google Folder where your application/documentations/etc that is shared by the applicant and PsychANP.
2. May 31: last day to submit Case Studies and applications.
3. Application + Case Studies reviewed throughout the month of June by the Certification Committee and eligibility for testing determined by the committee by June 31. Case studies are blinded and distributed to reviewers for grading. Applicants whose case studies pass the standards will be notified for their eligibility for test taking.
4. In early July: Applicants to be notified for eligibility for test taking.
5. Testing: Oct or Early Nov (exact week TBD)
6. Test Results notification by December
7. Applicant has until March 31 of the following year to complete CME and Contact Requirements.
8. PsychANP Certification Committee Reviews applications June and November every year to grant certifications. If we have enough applicants to make testing affordable, PsychANP plans to offer testing every year.

We have listened to your feedback and made a few refinements that strikes the balance between having a process that is both practical and comprehensive. Please take note of 2 major changes:
- The first is that we have simplified the CME requirements so that you are able to pick from a list of suggested topics and in your area of interest for psychopharmacology and assessments. Some areas such as suicide and psych emergencies have stayed the same in that they require minimum CE hours for safety.
- The second change is in the timeline and requirements. You do not need to complete all CME and contact hour requirements before applying (April-May 2024) or taking the exam (in October 2024) The deadline for CME, contact hours, passing the exam and all other requirements is until March 31, 2025. However, we recommend that you have completed at least 70-80% of your CME/contact hours before applying so you have a reasonable chance of completing the contact hours by March 31, 2025.
